Willie Everett
Poindexter
Dec 23, 1953 — Jan 20, 2026
Bedford
Willie Everett Poindexter peacefully transitioned to his eternal home on January 20, 2026. He was born on December 23, 1953, to the late Mattie Gill Poindexter Hancock and Jim Hardy Poindexter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, William Everett Poindexter; seven brothers, Troy Gill, Dennis, Jimmy, Lewis, Carlton, Elton, Donald, and Zebedee Poindexter; and two sisters, Reva Hughes and Nannie Richie-Akyea.
Willie graduated from Liberty High School in Bedford and continued his education at Alliance Trucking School and the Virginia School of Scales. His training opened the door to an extraordinary career that included many years at the former Golden West Foods, followed by driving for Eastern Transport, highway paving for Willie Mitchell, former Rubatex Corporation, and ultimately Fostek Corporation, where he retired. Retirement, however, brought about boredom and he missed being around people, so he returned to work to stay active. His willingness to keep going spoke to the core of who he was: a dedicated, hardworking man with a strong sense of purpose.
Willie's hobbies introduced him to countless lifelong friends - far too many to list. Anyone who knew him understood his deep love for cars. He worked on them, rebuilt them, raced them, and collected them. His heart belonged to Chevrolets, especially his Camaros, Chevelles, and Impalas of which he owned many. When Willie pulled up, people noticed -his cars were loud, polished, full of music, and always accompanied by his unforgettable smile. He enjoyed drag racing, followed NASCAR, and admired Dale Earnhardt. He often worked on other people's cars as well as his own, including those belonging to his daughters.
A lover of both old-school and new-school music, Willie enjoyed artists ranging from Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles to Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna. He was truly the life of the party. Sundays during the NFL football season were reserved for cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys while enjoying his favorite food- fried chicken. He also loved basketball and shared a special bond with his nephew Jeff Poindexter who also preceded him in death; their relationship was more like brothers than uncle and nephew.
Willie found his greatest joy in his children and grandchildren. His heart softened in their presence, and his love for them was evident in every interaction. Spiritual conversations with him often ended with his heartfelt affirmations: "Yes Lord" and "Amen." His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, yet we thank God for blessing us with his life for so many years. After Willie's passing, his youngest grandson Aries latched on to one of his collector's cars and has not let go of it since. We knew then that Willie's legacy would live on!
Those left to cherish his memory include his three loving daughters: Lynette Gayle Poindexter (Brandon), Tiffany Verleigha Poindexter (Joseph), and Allayna Vaness Poindexter; his grandchildren: Cassyn Forrest, Nah'Shon Buckner, Saraia Poindexter, Londyn Jefferson, Joiie Jefferson, Leyah Giles, and Aries Giles; one brother, Daniel Poindexter; two sisters, Clessie Turner (Leroy) and Elaine Cooley; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and his Powder Horn neighbors.
