Obituary

On the night of March 7, 2024, Walter "Joe" Louis Campbell passed away peacefully in his home when God sent His angels down to give Joe his wings to return to Him. Joe was 87 years old when he was offered everlasting life by our Master, as promised, a life without suffering and pain. Joe was the second child born to George and Clara Campbell in Bedford, VA.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Christeen Bell Campbell, parents, George and Clara Campbell, brother, James William Campbell, and nephew, Donald Louis Jones.

Survivors are his devoted sister, Beverly Jean Carter (James), and sisters-in-law, Kathleen B. Mallory, and Juanita Campbell. Eldest aunt, Mary L. Mitchell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Joe was educated in Bedford, VA. He started to find his quest early, leaving his hometown for Northern VA. He and his wife soon departed for New York, where they settled until embarking on retirement. Joe loved three things with all his heart: God, Family, and Cars. His passions all started at a young age, growing up in a Godly home, accepting Christ early, and continuing his walk until his last breath. He met the beautiful and graceful Christeen and was blessed with over 65 wonderful years of marriage. He was always there for family, and he assured everyone that if needed, he was there. If you knew Joe, the love of cars was a passion all its own. He enjoyed racing them, repairing them, trading them, and, yes, collecting them. He developed the skill of restoring them, becoming one of the best mechanics in Hempstead, Long Island. If he wasn't at the shop till late hours, he was working on someone's vehicle in his driveway. This interest was generated by his dad. They could repair and replace anything related to the smooth operation of a car. Joe dedicated his career to the trade until he retired, receiving a citation from Mayor James A. Garner, Incorporated Village of Hempstead, New York. He was known for his skills, knowledge, and dedication.

Joe was quiet yet strong like his father, a man of few words, and a dedicated servant of God and his family. He and his sister would talk every evening for hours, often saying goodbye several times before ending their calls. When the conversations were about the goodness of the Lord, they had church among the two of them. Joe's illness was short, and he faced his pains and discomforts without complaints or opposition. He was strong in his faith and knew heaven had room for him. He spent his final weeks with his sister, reminiscing about their wonderful childhood and devoted parents. There were moments of laughter, tears, jokes, and even singing. They had deep conversations that carried into the early morning hours, while others were light-hearted chats with few words. We will all cherish our precious memories and remember his joy in our lives. May he Rest Peacefully.

A private memorial service will be held.
