Virginia Jones
Wright
Sep 16, 1931 — Jan 10, 2020
Bedford
Virginia Jones Wright slipped away, peacefully to rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father on Friday, January 10, 2020 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. She was born September 16, 1931 to the late Mr. James Jones and Mrs. Ruby Bryant Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Richie and Ms. Genova Jones; two brothers, Mr. James Alfred Jones and Mr. Ozell Jones, Sr.
Virginia, or Ginny as she was affectionately known, was educated in the Bedford County School System and graduated from Bedford Training School. Virginia always had an affinity for styling hair and that interest led her to enroll in Stokes Cosmetology School in Lynchburg, Virginia. There she studied and flourished and upon completion, became a licensed Beautician. After years of doing hair, she moved on to work in several different positions before retiring from Bedford County Public Schools as an In-School Suspension Supervisor.
Virginia's humble walk with Christ began at an early age when she became a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Goode, Virginia. She was a faithful and devoted life-long member until her health began to fail, recently. During her most active years, she served as President of the Usher Board, was a member of the Sisters of Christ Missionary, the United Methodist Women's Organization and the church's Financial Board. In addition, she previously held the position of Treasurer of the Benevolent Fund.
Virginia's Christian Discipleship Journey extended beyond the walls of her home church, Mt. Zion. She was also a dedicated and loyal Watch Care Member of Lovely Zion Baptist Church in Bedford, Virginia for 68 years. There, she generously and lovingly gave of her time and service, at one point serving as the Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Usher Board.
Virginia adored and doted on her family and loved spending time with them. She had a very special place in her heart for the children and babies in the family. She was a trusted babysitter, homework assistant, chauffeur and all around supporter of many of her nieces, nephews and other family members. Even after she married, she and her children spent every Sunday at the home of her mother with her eight siblings and their families. Ginny loved to "Go". It didn't really matter where, as long as she was with family and friends. It remains a joke in the family about how she could get dressed and leave home within minutes, literally. She did not need much notice because she always remained at the ready. The relationship she shared with her family was exceptionally close. She never failed to make those around her feel loved and special. A selfless woman with a heart of gold; she would do anything for anyone.
Virginia was married in 1951 to the late Mr. Charles Wright. Those left to treasure their memories a son, Michael E. Wright (Maxine); two daughters, Karen W. Austin (Jesse) and Cynthia L. Wright; a grandson, Charles "Skip" Wright; two sisters, Naomi J. Freeman and Joann Hamlett; two brothers, Samuel L. Jones, Sr. and Willie Hamlett; a sister-in-law, Virginia Estelle Jones and an abundance of nieces, nephews, other beloved family members and friends.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only, but also to all who have loved His appearing.
