Violet Rebecca Ragland age 82, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. She was born October 3, 1933 in Big Island, VA to the late Samuel and Julia Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Fountain W. Ragland and her brother, Joseph Brown of Big Island, VA. She relocated to New York in the 50's where she met her husband, Dr. Fountain W. Ragland. Their 33 year marriage produced three sons whom she cherished, Dr. Michael S. Ragland (Patricia Mell-Ragland) of Chicago, IL; Mark S. Ragland of Upper Marlboro, MD; and F. William "Billy" Ragland (Tina Garrett-Ragland) of Forest, VA. A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) , Violet devoted her life to nursing for the better part of 25 years, including her work in New York and later in Bedford County, VA where she relocated after the passing of her husband, Dr. Ragland. In addition to her sons she is also survived by two sisters, Eva Irene Fletcher of Silver Springs, MD and Julia Alease Ross of Bedford, VA; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces whom she adored.
