Obituary

Thomas R. Turner, age 80, of Body Camp departed this life on February 7, 2013 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born June 12, 1932 to the late Ruben and Beulah Turner. He attended school in Bedford County and resided in Long Branch, NJ and the Bronx, NY before returning to his home in Body Camp. Thomas joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age and sang with the family gospel group, The Mt. Zion Chorus. In his younger years, Thomas was an avid baseball player for the Body Camp team. He loved to fish and garden, and he loved to share his crop with the community, family, and friends. He was employed as a Sawmiller and worked at Scott's Farm in Moneta, VA for many years. He was a great father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. God allowed us to enjoy his smile, jokes, sense of humor and love for almost 81 years. He was preceded in death by his wife by his wife, Lois; son, Douglas Wayne, daughter, Hazel Marionette, father and mother, Ruben and Beulah Turner, brothers, Isaiah, John Burrell, Theodore, and Joe Louis (Richard), and sisters, Marie and Nancy. He leaves to cherish his memories a son, Thomas "Rabbit" Turner, Jr. (Mary Lou), Osborne (Mae) Watson, Bedford, VA, who was raised in the home as a brother; special nieces, Diane (Bobby) Cunningham, Bedford, VA, and Nancy (Norman) Bost, Salisbury, NC; sisters-in-law, Shirley Robertson and Willie Bell Ray, both of Bedford, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
