On the early morning of Saturday, May 13, 2023, the Lord called home Thomas Junior Carper. Born on July 19, 1955 in Bedford, Virginia, he was 67 years old at his sudden passing. Thomas was proceeded in death by his parents, Margaret and Leonard, and three siblings: June, James, and Dorothy.

After spending over 47 years as a Fertilizer Truck Driver at Southern States – Bedford Cooperative, Thomas retired in December 2020. He had many loyal clients that were sad to lose his expertise and dedication, but happy for him to start the retired life.

At a young age, he joined Bold Branch Baptist Church, later his church home became Leesville Temple Church of God, and most recently he attended United Baptist Church.

Thomas was unapologetically himself to everyone he met. His hobbies included mowing his lawns (his neighbors, kids, family, and friends); watching his soaps (The Young and the Restless then The Bold and the Beautiful); rewatching westerns; growing a garden; riding his bicycle; and collecting trucks (small, large, old, and new).

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janet who will cherish him forever, even in death. His daughter, Bridget; and son, Maurice (Pedro) had the best dad that they could have dreamed of.

In addition, left with fond memories are his sisters, Barbara Phoenix, Ruth (Glenn) Austin, Emma (Roger) Witcher, and Gracie Bell. His favorite cousin, William/Willie Boy (Evelyn) Thomas and in-laws, JoAnn Carper, Wanda Preas, and Bernard Gregory. A large number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, a great-great nephew, cousins, relatives, and friends.
