Tempy Barksdale
Davis
Jul 12, 1928 — May 4, 2023
Bedford
Ms. Tempy Barksdale Davis passed away May 4, 2023. She was the youngest child born to Wilmore and Hattie Walker on July 12, 1928. She is preceded in death by her son, Willard Vincent Barksdale; grandson, Eric Vincent Barksdale; sisters, Lettie Wright and Ella Justice; brothers Richard Lazenby and Walter Lazenby.
She acquired her Associates Degree from Central Virginia Community College in Lynchburg, Virginia. Tempy worked for many years in the Bedford County school system – her first assignment was at Little Otter Elementary School as a teacher's aide and she worked at Jefferson Forest High School until her retirement.
Tempy was proud to be an Episcopalian! Along with her aunts, brothers, sister Lettie and cousins, she was a member of Saint Philip's Episcopal Church, Bedford, Virginia, where she served as organist. When Saint Philip's was closed, she, along with her family were welcomed into the church family of Saint John's Episcopal Church where she sang on the choir (something that brought her much joy.) She always considered Saint John's her "church home."
She is survived by her daughter, Sheilah Barksdale of West Babylon, New York, grandson, Andrew Scott Barksdale of Duluth, Georgia, daughter-in-law, Vanessa M. Barksdale of Duluth, Georgia, nieces Rhetta J. Watkins (Clarence) of Bedford, Virginia and Clarice J. McEnheimer (Alvin) of Lynchburg, Virginia and a host of relatives and friends.
Sheilah would like to thank the nurses and CNAs at Oakwood Health and Rehab Center and the Centra Hospice nursing staff and social workers for the care they provided to her mother and the support they gave to her.
She is also grateful to Reverend Wilson Brown and members of the congregation for their visits, prayers and pastoral services provided to her mother.
Sheilah will forever be grateful for the love and support received during her mother's illness.
