Stephen Andre
Lynton
May 5, 1955 — Apr 15, 2026
New York
Stephen Andre Lynton was born into this world on May 5, 1955, to the late Annie Lynton and Larey Lynton in Harlem, NY. Stephen affectionately called Stevie by his family and friends attended day programs throughout his life where he was exposed to museums, parks, plays and other cultural activities.
Stevie lived and was cared for by the staff at the Young Adult Institute (YAI) in New York, NY. They ensured he had a life filled with laughter, outings and his favorite things to do on earth, singing and dancing. YAI would bring Stevie to Bedford, VA and Washington, DC to visit with his mother as she was getting older and not able to travel to New York. The visits in DC would occur at his Aunt Edna's home whom he loved and called "my baby" or "cuckoo". His Aunt Edna and cousin Troy would travel to New York to visit for the Holidays, his birthday or just to check on him.
Chandra Taliafero, June Chatmen and Karleen Joseph took excellent care of Stevie taking him to the doctor's office for appointments and the hospital when he was sick, and would travel with him to Bedford, VA and Washington, DC. The staff loved Stevie without question and treated him like an extended part of their family.
Stevie is survived by his stepbrother, Anthony Lynton (Belinda) of Suffolk, VA; his Aunt Edna Wills (Harry) of Washington, DC; Aunt Delores Gibbons of New York; a special cousin Tommy Johnson (Jennifer) of Bedford, VA; and a host of cousins.
This is Not Goodbye
I did not want to leave you
It was just my time to go
I know your heart is breaking
So, I need to let you know
That although you can no longer see me
I'll be forever by your side
I promise time will numb the pain
And help dry the tears you've cried
You can reach me in your memories
Just think of me, I will be there
In your dreams, we can visit yesteryear
Where we didn't have a care
Please carry on and live your life
I beg of you to try
Just know we'll meet again one day
As this is not goodbye
