It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Savator Hydessa Selden Lowry, who departed from this world on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the age of 100. Born on October 30, 1924, in Bedford, Virginia, to the late Lillian and Elston Selden, the third of nine children. Savator was predeceased by brothers Wiley Selden (Inez), Wellington Selden (Peggy) and Raymond Seldon (Vivian), and sisters Francis Woods (Garrison), Mattie Greene (Ivan) and Mary Will McDuffie; brothers-in-law Melvin Hunter and Eugene Medlock.

Savator attended Bedford Training School and began working at the early age of 16 for Dr. George Pogue setting the stage for her commitment to her community. She later began working for McCormick where she retired after more than twenty years. Savator met and married the love of her life, the late Harry Jerome Lowry, and lived in marital bliss for fifty years until his passing in 1998.

Savator joined Washington Street Baptist Church and accepted Christ at a very early age. She was a devoted member of the Deaconess Board, Jr. Usher Board Supervisor, Sr. Usher Board, Women's Ministry, Missionary Ministry, Pastor's Aide, Hospitality Committee and long-standing Mother of the church.

Savator was a beloved daughter, wife, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, friend, and community member whose presence brought joy and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She had a warm and loving spirit that radiated from deep within.  She loved spending time with loved ones and contributing to her community. Her personal life was a testament to her vibrant spirit and compassionate nature.

Savator is survived by two sisters, Anne Hunter and Marionette Medlock who will deeply miss and cherish her memory. Her dedicated and loving nieces, nephews, godchildren and special friends who will miss her delicious cooking, kind heart, and warm spirit.
