Sarah Elizabeth Brown Davis (Blue), age 78 of Bedford, departed this life on Sunday, April 5, 2015. She was born April 21, 1936 in Bedford, VA to the late Floyd and Sarah Elizabeth Butler Brown. She was a Deaconess at the Otterville Baptist Church. Sarah was married to the late William A. Davis Sr. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd Brown Jr. and James E. Brown. She was the first African American registered nurse from Bedford, VA. She retired from DC General Hospital; later volunteered at Bedford Free Clinic, until her health failed. She is survived by three sons: Mckinley (Tonia) Davis, William(Carolyn) Davis and James(Ruwanda)Davis all of Maryland, and a daughter,Vanessa Fauntleroy of Bedford; two sisters: Dorothy Brown Monroe of Landover, MD; Mary Brown of Bedford,VA; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a host of nieces,nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 3pm at Otterville Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
