Samuel Louambre
Jones, Sr.
Jun 18, 1938 — Jul 9, 2024
Bedford
Having fought a good fight, and having the faith, Samuel Louambre Jones, Sr. claimed the eternal promise of life and answered death's quiet call on Tuesday evening, July 9, 2024, at Oakwood Health and Rehab Center. He has made the transition and has gone to be with Almighty God and his beloved wife Gertrude Jones. A native of Goode Virginia, he was born June 18, 1938, to the late James & Ruby Bryant Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Richie, Ms. Genova Jones, Mrs. Virginia Jones Wright, and two brothers, Mr. James Alfred and Mr. Ozell Jones, Sr.
Samuel was affectionately known as "Sam" by his family and friends. He completed his education at Susie Gibson High School in Bedford Virginia, where he participated in multiple sports. He worked at Rubatex for over forty-five years with other side jobs between.
He met his wife Gertrude Wright Jones in school, and they married on January 9, 1958, in Bedford Va. Their life was fulfilled with three children Marilyn, Ronald, & Samuel Jr.
At a young age Sam accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and united with Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Goode, Va. He was a faithful and devoted lifelong member until his health began to fail. During his most active years, he served as a Lay Leader, Trustee and was on the original Goode Community Gospel Choir. His Christian Discipleship extended beyond his home church Mt. Zion. He was also a dedicated Watch Care Member of Lovely Zion Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon board and on the Choir until his health failed.
Sam truly had a heart to serve and help family and friends in any way possible. He worked alongside his wife Gertrude on the Bedford County Museum Board.
Sam leaves to cherish in his loving memories: one daughter, Marilyn Wilson (Jacques); two sons, Ronald Jones (Suzanne) and Samuel Jones Jr; three grandchildren, Aaron, Brandan (Taylor) Jones, and Jordan Wilson; two great grandchildren, Alaina & Bowen Jones; two sisters Naomi Freeman, and Joann Hamlett; one brother Willie Hamlett; one sister-in-law, Estelle Jones, and many loving & caring nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Sam will be sorely missed, but now he is FREE. Thank God Almighty he is free at last.
