Russell William Sharpe, age 64, of Bedford departed this life Monday, January 27, 2014. He was born on September 16, 1949, the fifth child of Bernice Sharpe and the late James Harry Sharpe. Russell was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Joseph and Henry Sharpe. Russell was educated in the Bedford County Schools, graduating from Susie G. Gibson High School in 1967. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He loved playing his guitar. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Marie Campbell Sharpe, of Bedford; five stepchildren, Ann Peele (Freddie) John Harris (Melvie), Phillip Harris, Troy Harris, (Teresa), and Sharon Thomas; five sisters, Helen Sharpe-Williams, Shirley Mosby (William), Madge Sharpe-Williams, Peggy Thompson, and Cindy Brodgon (Jermaine); four brothers, Harry Sharpe (Evelyn), Harold Sharpe, Lewis Sharpe, and Steve Sharpe, 13 step grandchildren, six sisters-in-law, Louise Sharpe, Iris Sharpe, and Shelby Sharpe, Allie Black, Mary Hannah Johnson (Clyde), Seriena Paynter; aunts, Polly Johnson (Oscar), Rosa Carson (Bob), Mrytle Leftwich, Phyllis Robinson, Brenda Robinson, and Marie Robinson; uncles, Richard Robinson (Ann), Robert Murphy, and Melvin English; a special nephew, Darnell Sharpe, that he referred to as his "go-to person", a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
