Obituary

Rosa Bell Johnson departed this life, Thursday, January 28, 2016 in Bedford, VA. She was born in Monongah, WV on June 17, 1914 to the late Hettie Jones. Her family relocated to Bedford, VA. at a young age where she attended schools locally in Bedford County. Rosa married William (Bill) Johnson and they were blessed with their only daughter, Sylvia.

Rosa left Bedford for a few years to work in New York and Massachusetts and was proud of her accomplishments and experiences during that time. Eventually returning to Bedford, Rosa was employed as a housekeeper for the Davidson family for many years. She cared deeply for them as they were very close to her heart. Rosa was also a devout Christian with strong faith and enjoyed attending church services at Western Light Baptist Church for many years.

She also enjoyed her family, especially when her grandchildren visited during the summer. She entertained them with many activities including playing board games, promoting the importance of education and maintaining her garden. Being outdoors was one of Rosa's favorite pastimes. She enjoyed sitting in her yard talking with family and friends, especially cousin and neighbor, John I. Jones. Their visits were filled with lively conversations and joyful laughter over the years. Rosa's love of reading magazines and newspapers, cooking, sewing, letter writing and constantly adding to her bottle collection filled her life with joy. Rosa was preceded in death by her daughter Sylvia Butler, son- in-law John (Bobby) Butler, sister, Vernell Logan, brother, Bruce Jones and grandson John (Eddie) Butler.

Rosa leaves her legacy to her granddaughters, Sherry Northern (Harold) "Chico" of Mount Vernon, NY, Angela Hall (Jerry), Sandra (Kay) Butler (Mike) both of Bedford, VA, and Donna Woodbury (Ashley) of Newport News, VA, granddaughter-in-law Felicia Butler, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, cousins, other relatives and friends. At age 101, and the matriarch of her family, Rosa was a strong, loving woman with great morals, values, wisdom and humor and will be deeply missed by those that had the pleasure of knowing her, crossing paths with her and loving her. She is now resting in peace with the angels.
