Obituary

God dispatched His heavenly angel to 1045 Brandywine Drive on February 14, 2014 and called his son, Roger Wayne Callaham, Sr. home to be with the Lord. Roger was the fourth child of Matilda Payne Callaham and Clarence Callaham born on May 7, 1953 in Bedford, Virginia. Roger professed Christ at an early age and joined St. John Baptist Church where he was a devoted member. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1972. In 1974, he married the absolute love of his life, Doris "Peaches" Callaham and they had three loving children. He joined the United States Army where he served in Korea. He received outstanding teambuilding and leadership awards and achieved the rank of Sergeant. He took up brick masonry, and was honorably discharged in 1982. He started his career as a brick mason where his work took him all over Bedford County and surrounding areas. He was an accomplished brick layer, and some of his work can be seen at Liberty University and St. John Baptist Church, as well as many homes and businesses in the area. Roger had a love for the outdoors and spent annual family vacations at Nags Head and Buggs Island. He absolutely loved gardening, fishing, camping and throwing horseshoes. He spent many Sundays at New London Drag strip. He was a great role model and mentor, particularly to his nephews, often giving advice on how to be a "real man". He was also a sports fan; especially for his children; attending Nicole's track meets, W.C.'s football games and Kenisha's band performances at Jefferson Forest High School. Whatever they were involved in; Roger was there to support them. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Callaham, his son, Roger Wayne Callaham, Jr. his mother, Matilda Callaham and a sister, Mary Fannie Brown. He is survived by his loving daughters, Kenisha (Daniel) Bachelle of Lynchburg, VA and Nicole (Rashaud) Palmer of Youngsville, NC; seven grandchildren, Natalie, Marissa, and Isabella Bachelle; Amaya, Roger III, and Anessa Callaham, and Isaiah Palmer and his soon to be born brother or sister; his father, Mr. Clarence Callaham; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Thompson and Vera C. Johnson; three brothers, William (Angela) Callaham, Donald (Hope) Callaham, and Michael Callaham; mother-in-law, Verlie Mae Thompson, sisters-in law, Ida (Glenn) Scott, Vanessa (Jerry) Martinez, Annette (Thomas) Robertson; brothers-in-law, Thomas (Thesrez) Brown, who was also his best friend; Kenneth Spinner, Cecil (Annette) Spinner, Larry Spinner, Archie (Karen) Spinner, David (Reena) Thompson; a devoted friend Mildred Hunter, and a host of special nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
