Obituary

Raymond C. Seldon, Sr., was born on July 27, 1937, in Bedford, Virginia to the late Preston Otey and Lillian Calloway Seldon. Raymond grew up in a close-knit family and was the youngest son of nine siblings. He departed this life suddenly on June 13, 2023, in his home in District Heights, Maryland.

Raymond was educated in Bedford, VA, graduating from Susie G. Gibson High School in 1956. He was close with his classmates, never missing a reunion, and proud of being a graduate of "Susie G." Maryland was home to Raymond, but Bedford was in his heart. You couldn't know Raymond and not hear about WBLT (World's Best Little Town). Bedford is also where Raymond met the love of his life, Vivian L. Seldon. Together they built a great life and shared many memories with their children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

Raymond had a successful career as a Journeyman Offset Pressman with the United States Government Printing Office, in Washington, D.C., where he worked for 35 years. He was a mentor and role model to many people whom he helped to find their path in life.

Raymond had a deep passion for people and family. He loved his family unconditionally. He never met a stranger and would talk to everyone, sparking up conversations about football and his love for the Washington (Redskins) Commanders. Some people even called him "Redskin Ray."

Raymond's presence illuminated every room he entered, and his laughter brought comfort to all who knew him. He was the life of every party, from the moment he walked into the room, from his well-coordinated outfit, with matching hat, to his dance moves fit for any song. He had a nurturing spirit and was known for saying: "kill it with kindness", "stay in your lane", "l.o.v.e- you know the word", and "keep God first."

Raymond was preceded in death by his loving wife, Vivian L. Seldon; grandsons, Raymond Seldon, III, and Jeffrey D. Seldon, Jr.; sisters, Mattie Green, and Frances Selden; brothers, Wiley Selden, and Wellington "Gay" Selden; sisters-in-law, Peggy Selden and Shirley Kinard; brothers-in-law, Ivan Green, Sr., Harry Lowry, Melvin Hunter, Eugene Medlock, Alonzo Younger, Jr., and Joseph Kinard.

Raymond leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Raymond Seldon, Jr. (Jackie), and Jeffrey Seldon, Sr.; three grandchildren, Nikita Richardson (John), Shadona Seldon (Nate), and Shamel Seldon (EJ); seven great-grandchildren, Duane Price, Jr. (Jasmine), Trinity Thompson, Macai Seldon, Janiya Seldon, Jacion Seldon, Teagan Seldon, and Shaniya Seldon; one great-great grandchild, Jayce Price; four sisters, Savator Lowry, Annie Hunter, Mary Will McDuffie, and Marionette Medlock; God-daughter, Cynthia Allen; special friends, Rudy Williams and Barbara Hobson; and a host of relatives and friends who loved him dearly. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his infectious laugh, and his unwavering commitment to his family and community.
