Olethie Davis
Quarles
Nov 5, 1941 — Jul 24, 2026
Bedford
God saw the road was getting rough, and the hills were hard to climb, so He closed your eyes and whispered, "Peace be thine." Your days of pain have passed, but to those of us who loved and lost you, your memory will never grow old.
Olethie Davis Quarles peacefully slipped away on July 24, 2026, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born on November 5, 1941, in Forest, Virginia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Hamilton and Lillian Spinner Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her six siblings: Ernest, Hamilton Jr., Winifred, Myrtle, Maria Austin, and Mary Coles.
At an early age, Olethie accepted Christ and became a devoted member of Altha Grove Baptist Church. She graduated from Susie G. Gibson High School in 1961.
Following high school, Olethie proudly embraced the life of an Army wife for sixteen years. During that time, she had the opportunity to live in Europe for three years and in the state of Washington for two years. She later spent fifteen years in New York, where she was employed by Theodore Roosevelt National Park-Oyster Bay.
Olethie found great joy in gardening, especially tending to her beautiful roses. Her love for flowers reflected the kindness, patience, and beauty she shared with everyone around her.
Olethie leaves a legacy of love, her husband of sixty-two years, Charlie Quarles; her children, Sheila, Regina, Chase, and ShaKera; one grandchild, Victoria; two great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She also leaves one sister, Elaine (Ernest) Merritt; brothers-in-law, William J. (Mozell) Quarles and Richard M. (Brenda) Quarles; and a host of other relatives, and friends.
