On February 15, 2020 Nelson R. Hurt Sr., 79 of Bedford passed away in the home of a loving friend; where he was nurtured and cared for. Nelson was born March 18, 1940 in Bedford, Virginia, and was the oldest of him and his sibling. Nelson was proceeded in death by his parents, Hubert and Gracie Hurt; his daughter Tondylia Hurt, and his son Nelson Hurt, Jr.

Nelson R. Hurt, Sr. was one strong, independent, and determined person. He loved spending time with family and friends, and loved the time spent working on and admiring cars just about the same. A day never went by where Nelson didn't lend a helping hand to somebody, and was very proud to do so.

He is survived by his wife, Doritha Hurt of Bedford, Virginia; sister, Peggy Hurt of Bedford, Virginia; a son Tony (Jody) Hurt of Bedford, Virginia; a daughter Janet (William) Poindexter of Bedford, Virginia; and a daughter-in-law Doris Hurt (wife of the late Nelson Hurt Jr.) of Lynchburg, Virginia. Six grandchildren Jayden Hurt, Brielle Hurt, Dustin Hurt, Destiny Poindexter, Derek Hurt, JT Laughlin, and five great grandchildren. A nephew Dean (Candice) Hurt of North Carolina, and a great niece Blake.
