Mrs. Mildred Cordelia Dudley Padgett, age 78, of Bedford, VA departed this life Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born on August 6, 1934 to the late Curtis R. and M. Beautina Dudley. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by a son, Lawrence T. Padgett. Mildred joined the Washington Street Baptist Church at an early age and remained a faithful member until her death. She was a graduate of Bedford Training School. She relocated to Boston, MA to pursue a career in music. She was an accomplished musician, playing piano for several choirs during her lifetime. She played for Washington Street Baptist Church Gospel Chorus and Men's Choir, Oakmulgee Baptist Church Gospel Chorus and Senior Choir, Lovely Zion Baptist Church Gospel Chorus and Otterville Baptist Church Gospel Chorus. In addition, Mildred played whenever and wherever she was needed. Mildred loved to "tickle the ivories" and she is still tickling the ivories in heaven. She was also a member of the Washington St. Trustee Board. She leaves to mourn her loss, a daughter, Sheila Denise Padgett of Columbia, SC, a son, William Joseph Padgett of Lynchburg, VA, a granddaughter, Te'Meika Nicole Hines of Charlotte, NC; a nephew, Curtis Edward "Eddie" Dudley and a niece, Rhonda Elaine Dudley. Also mourning her loss are a sister-in-law, Mrs. Carolyn Dudley, former husband, James H. Padgett, and a host of other relatives and friends.
