Michael Eugene
Wright
Apr 2, 1952 — May 15, 2021
Bedford
Michael Eugene Wright peacefully slipped away to answer the call from our Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Centra Oakwood Health & Rehabilitation Center in Bedford, Virginia. He was born April 2, 1952 to the late Mr. Charles Wright and Mrs. Virginia Jones Wright. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Restee Wright Eanes and step grandfather, Mr. Charles Eanes; maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. James and Ruby Jones.
Michael was educated in the Bedford County Public School System, where he excelled and graduated from Liberty High School in 1970. He went on to further his education by studying Business Administration at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia. Michael enjoyed a long career with the United Parcel Service and retired in 2002. At an early age, Michael accepted Christ, was baptized and joined Lovely Zion Baptist Church where he remained a member until his death.
Michael possessed many talents and interests. He was an avid sports enthusiast, he loved cars, liked to go crabbing and whipping up his special dipping/hot sauce. However, there were three activities that were near and dear to his heart. He was an artist and loved to paint. He won several art contests during his middle school and high school years, ultimately selling one of his best pieces.
But boy, did he love basketball. He was a standout Shooting Guard as a Minuteman at Liberty High School. Michael broke and currently still holds the record of 44 points scored in a single game.
Lastly, drag racing really got his blood pumping. He enjoyed both watching and racing, ultimately owning several race cars of his very own. Michael had a huge giving heart and graciously helped many people along his life's journey. He will be greatly missed.
Michael was married in 1974 to Maxine Harris. Left to treasure their memories are: his wife, Maxine Harris Wright; one son, Charles W. "Skip" Wright; two sisters, Karen Wright Austin (Jesse) and Cynthia L. Wright; three aunts, Mrs. Naomi J. Freeman, Ms. Joann Hamlett and Mrs. Virginia Estelle Jones; two uncles, Mr. Willie Hamlett and Mr. Samuel Jones, Sr.; as well as other numerous relatives and friends. Michael had many friends, but in particular he was blessed to have a very special, dedicated and loyal friend in Mr. Joe Wright of Norfolk, Virginia. Michael leaves a lasting legacy; he was a doting, supportive and loving father to his son, Skip.
"I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day, and not to me only, but also to all who have loved his appearing." ~2 Timothy 4:7-8
