Mary Elizabeth Flood age 87, of Bedford, went into eternal rest with her Heavenly Father Jesus Christ on January 22, 2023 at her residence. She was born on January 9, 1936 in Bedford County to the late Oscar Cheatwood and Katie W. Cheatwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Henry Wayne Flood; four sisters Kathleen, Ella, Fannie and Viola and three brothers Howard, Odell and John; and her companion, John Edward Calloway.

Mary Elizabeth was affectionately known as "Liz" by her family and friends. She was a devoted Christian and member of Otterville Baptist Church. She was a woman who loved the Lord.  Liz was a pillar in the community, a mother-figure and babysitter to many. She was one who never met a stranger and always kept that beautiful smile. Liz was employed at McCormick Foods where she retired after twenty-three years of service.

Liz loved her horses. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking and also liked to travel. Her favorite colors were burgundy, green and yellow. Liz will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory are: four sons Henry Cheatwood (Rosie), Willie Flood, John Flood (Cynthia) and Joseph Flood (Sheila); four daughters Alice Westrom (Myron), Nora Johnson, Mary Brawley and Margaret Brawley (Steve); twenty-five grandchildren, forty-six great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
