Mrs. Mable Johnson Otey, age 90 of Big Island, VA departed this life on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. She was born on February 6, 1931 to the late Henry and Cora B. Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar L. Otey, Sr.; one son, Oscar L. Otey, Jr.; two sisters, Anna Belle Watson and Alice Johnson Spinner and one brother, Cephas Johnson.

Mable graduated from Bedford Training School. She was employed at Bedford Memorial Hospital; after many years of service, she retired. Mable was a faithful member of Reed Creek Baptist Church in Big Island, VA; where she sung on the Senior Choir for several years. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Mable was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and friend. God blessed her to live a long life which enabled her to impact many lives. Her smile and sweet spirit will be missed by all.

Those left to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy are: six children: Phyllis Harris, Peggy Otey (Kent) Brown, Francine (Wesley) White, Kathy Otey, Fay (Todd) Bryant and Troy Otey; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one sister, Estelle Grant; one sister-in-law, Ellen Johnson; a special friend, Annie May White; a host of other relatives and friends.

Just by looking in her eyes

Her laughter is a source of joy,

Her words are warm and wise.

There is a kindness and compassion
