Kenneth Eugene
Terry, Sr.
Aug 17, 1937 — Mar 11, 2025
Forest
On March 11, 2025, God in his infinite wisdom called Deacon Kenneth Eugene Terry, Sr. from labor to reward. Born on August 17, 1937, he was the beloved son of the late George W. Terry and Susie Harris Terry. He was also preceded in death by eight brothers Charles Edward Brown, Leroy Brown, Phillip Brown, Mark Anthony Brown, Dennis Brown, William Brown, Howard Johnson and Samuel Johnson Jr.; six sisters Lillie Mae Johnson Hughes, Louise Graham Poindexter, Blanche Brown Kasey, Betty Jane Mack, Goldie Munnings and Elizabeth Johnson Holt.
Eugene attended Susie B. Gibson High School and later answered the call to serve his country as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. His dedication to hard work was evident throughout his thirty-year career at Griffen Pipe, from which he honorably retired.
For sixty-three years Eugene was devoted to his loving wife Fannie Calloway Terry with whom he built a family rooted in faith, love and integrity. He was a cherished father to his children.
On October 9, 1977, Eugene was ordained as a Deacon by Reverend Alvin Pierce. For over forty-seven years he faithfully and diligently served Oak Grove Baptist Church, embodying the true spirit of a servant leader. His commitment to his faith and community was evident in all he did.
Beyond his service in the church, Eugene was a mentor and role model for many years as an assistant coach for the Forest Tigers little league football team. He was an avid reader of the Bible, a man who never met a stranger and someone who found great joy in sharing stories of his Marine Corps experiences. His passions include fishing, engaging in conversations and keeping up with current events and sports.
Eugene will be missed dearly by all who knew him and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of sixty-three years Fannie Calloway Terry; three sons Bobby Terry (Gail) of Lynchburg, VA, Kenneth Terry Jr. and George Terry both of Forest, VA; two daughters Brenda Coles (George) of Lynchburg, VA and Lisa Flood (Leroy) of Bedford, VA; three grandchildren Derrick Taylor, Ashton, Terry and Tavia Coles; three great-grandchildren Sauvion Terry, Tah'leah Terry and Tayleigh Coles; three brothers James Johnson, Lorenzo Johnson (Carol) both of Bedford, VA and Charles Johnson (Sylvia) of Lynchburg, VA; six sisters Odessa Flood, Barbara Smith, Brenda Smith, Joyce Johnson, Thelma Patterson (Clyde) all of Bedford, VA, and Ennis Graham of Roanoke, VA; three sisters-in-law Mary Goggins, Cora Coles and Marie Mosley (Clint); two brothers-in-law Roosevelt Calloway and Fredrick Calloway; four great aunts Ruby Moore of Raleigh, NC, Beulah Crenshaw (Eddie) of Seattle, WA; Dorothy Hughes of Las Vegas, NV and Joann Joubert (Sylvester) of Anchorage, AK; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
