Sister Kathryn Louise Bonds, age 90, peacefully slipped into heavenly rest on Monday, June 22, 2026 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born in Bedford County on April 15, 1936, the only child of the late Isaac and Clara Kathleen Drew Nelms. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Alexander Bonds and grandson, Derrick Bonds.

She was educated in Bedford County and was in the first class at Susie G. Gibson High School. Then she attended National Business College.

Sister Louise worked as an instructional aide in Bedford County Schools for many years; and retired from Golden West Foods. She ended her working career at the Bedford Museum.

Sister Louise was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she joined as a child. She held numerous positions throughout the years, secretary/clerk, treasurer, senior choir member, Sunday School teacher, mother of the church and served many auxiliary roles in the church.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Hazel Person; son, Walter Eugene Bonds (Rhonda); grandchildren, Roger Jr., Brenda, Roger K., Darrell and Davin; a host of great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

God saw the road was getting rough,

The hills were too hard to climb.

He gently closed her weary eyes,

And whispered, "peace be thine."

Her weary hours, her days of pain,

Her weary nights have passed.

Her weary patient tired frame,

Has found sweet rest at last.

She left a beautiful memory,

And sorrow too great to be told.

But to us who loved and knew her,

The memory will never grow old.
