Obituary

Mrs. Josephine Johnson Jones, age 98, of Bedford, VA, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, July 31, 2026, in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Born on July 17, 1928, in Bedford, Virginia, Josephine was the beloved daughter of the late Fletcher Johnson, Sr. and Katherine T. Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Jones; her daughter, Mabelean Noel; her grandson, Carroll Junior Noel; her brothers, Fletcher Johnson, Jr. and Jennis Johnson; and her sisters, Catherine Payne, Irene Saunders, and Mary Lee Jennings.

Josephine accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and became a faithful and active member of Oakmulgee Baptist Church. She was employed for many years as a laundry worker at the Elks Home and Bedford Memorial Hospital before retiring. Following her retirement, she lovingly cared for her mother in her home for many years, demonstrating the same compassion and selflessness that defined her life.

Known for her gentle spirit, kindness, and steadfast love, Josephine was the backbone of her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and caregiver who found great joy in family gatherings and treasured every opportunity to care for her grandchildren. Her strength, independence, and faith were an inspiration to all who knew her, and she remained independent until the last few years of her life.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted daughters, Patty (Levi) Bonds of Roanoke, VA; Peggy (Charles) Harris of Lynchburg, VA; Dolphine (Curtis) Jones of Lynchburg, VA; and Gladys (Greg) Bryant of Goode, VA. She is also survived by her sisters, Betty Jean Parker and Julie Kasey, both of Bedford, VA; her brother, Rudolph (Bessie) Johnson of Bedford, VA; and a host of cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

Though she will be deeply missed, Josephine's legacy of faith, love, compassion, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
