John Tyrone Jones, age 75, of South Carolina formerly of Bedford, departed this life on Tuesday, December 17, 2019. He was born in Goodview, VA on September 15, 1944 to the late John I. Jones and Doris T. Jones. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Douglas Jones.

John was raised in Bedford along with his three siblings. He was educated in the Bedford County School System and was a graduate of Susie G. Gibson High School. John furthered his education at Howard University and Bluefield State College, ultimately obtaining a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology in 1967.

John then married Frances P. Jones and began his career in education as a teacher in 1967 in the Mecklinburg County Public School System. John welcomed the birth of his son, John T. Jones, II in 1968. He moved his young family to Southern Maryland where he continued as an educator while earning his Masters Degree in Science from UNC, Chapel Hill. John's career moved into Education Administration in 1973; the same year he welcomed the birth of his daughter, Janine T. Jones. He then obtained a MBA in Finance from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville while serving as Vice Principal for several schools in the St. Mary's County Public School System. His career spanned over more than 44 years, touching the lives of three generations of students before he retired in 2010. After losing his wife of 44 years in 2011, John Traveled, met and married Carolyn Sorenson in 2012. The two continued to travel and enjoy life until his passing in 2019.

John loved socializing, fishing, and traveling with his family and friends. We will all miss his easy demeanor, joking manner and ability to see the lighter side of life. We know that he is at peace in God's hands and in the presence of his loved ones who have gone before him.

John is survived by his wife; a son, John T. Jones, II (wife, Tawnya); a daughter, Janine T. Jones; sisters, Gail Harris (husband, John Harris) and Karen Spinner (husband, Archie Spinner); a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins.
