James Glenn Spinner, age 53, of Lynchburg, VA calmly and peacefully went to rest in the arms of our heavenly Father on May 7, 2011 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was born September 7, 1957 in Bedford, VA. He joined the Otterville Baptist Church at an early age and graduated from Liberty High School in 1975. He was a star basketball player and won a State Championship while at Liberty. He served in the United States Army and later started his professional career at Weyerhaeuser, now known as International Paper. He excelled in Management, and he was extremely respected and loved. During his tenure, he developed lasting relationships that will never be forgotten. James, known to his family members as "Glenn" and "Gomer" loved his family unconditionally. He was often referred to as the Rock and the Peacemaker. Glenn was the first family member that purchased a new car; and cars he loved. He collected antique cars and at one time owned 12 of them. Some of his best times were when he and his brothers went fishing. He had two extra special friends, and they called themselves the "Three Amigos". They were Glenn, John Cheatwood and Jerry Franklin. He often referred to his longtime friend, Andy Bolling as his "White Dad". He possessed a love for music and would often perform to M.C. Hammer or Michael Jackson's music. But more than anything, Glenn loved the Lord. In his last days, when his family was saying good night, he assured them of three things, "I'm OK, I'm at Peace, and I'm in God's Hands." He is preceded in death by his beloved father, Van Thompson, a brother, Harold, two sisters, Elaine and Doris (Peachie), two nephews, William, Roger (W.C.), and his niece, Lari Monique. Glenn is survived by his devoted and loving children, Jamison (Christon) Spinner and Pia Spinner, two grandchildren, Micaiah and Jamari Spinner, his mother and best friend, Verlie M. Thompson, four sisters, Ida Gail (Glenn) Scott, Vanessa (Jerry) Martinez, Annette (Tyrone) Robertson, Doretha Hurt; five brothers, Kenneth Spinner, Cecil (Annette) Spinner, Larry Spinner, Archie (Karen) Spinner and David Thompson; a special and loving devoted friend, Deborah Donnigan, and a host of nieces, nephews, special cousins and loving friends.
