Mr. James Lewis Hurt was born on June 21, 1947, in Bedford, Virginia, to the late James C. Hurt and Lucille C. Hurt. On August 6, 2026, our beloved James Lewis Hurt transitioned from his earthly home to his Heavenly home.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Theresa S. Hurt; his brother, Earl C. Hurt; and his brother-in-law, James Moon.

Lewis, as he was affectionately known, was educated in the Bedford County School System. Throughout the years, he was employed by several organizations, including the Roanoke Public School System, the City of Roanoke, Singer Furniture, and K&W Cafeteria.

Lewis was a strong man of character who carried himself with a quiet presence. He was a family-oriented man who was devoted to his loved ones and dedicated to his family and friends. His kind spirit, strength, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving sister, Shirley H. Moon; his niece, Cassandra Moon (Casey); his special friend, Willie B. Ray; and a host of other relatives and friends.
