Jake
Rucker
Mar 27, 1926 — Feb 8, 2016
Jake Rucker departed this life and went from labor to reward on Monday, February 8, 2016. He was born in Goode, Virginia on March 27, 1926 to the late Henry and Martha Rucker. He lived an honorable life making the most of every opportunity while helping others he met along the way.
He was employed at Cifax Packing House and in the mid 1960's he was employed by Lynchburg Foundry's Lower Basin. An accomplished and dedicated employee; he retired after working hard for over 25 years.
Jake was well known as a recreational farmer, raising cattle and pigs. He was recognized around Bedford County for his flourishing vegetable gardens. He shared with family and friends and they looked forward to getting those wonderful fresh vegetables on an annual basis. A gentle man with a quiet spirit, Jake loved ushering, and for many years he joyfully served on the Usher Board at Poplar Spring Baptist Church. He took his position very seriously and taught many others in the church how to conduct themselves as a doorkeeper in God's house.
Jake is survived by his devoted and faithful wife of 56 years, Nannie Rucker; three daughters, Gail, Tonja, and Toni, one step-daughter Pamela Jackson (Peyton), one granddaughter, three great grandchildren, and a beloved family friend, Perry Harris. He is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many great friends and neighbors.
A special thanks to the medical team at Centra Hospice for their loving care and support, and to the staff of Bedford Funeral Home for their professional services.
