Obituary

In the quiet hours of Tuesday, February 3, 2025, Heaven welcomed a beautiful soul. Helen R. Spinner, affectionately known as Jean, gained her wings, leaving behind a legacy of love and a void in the hearts of all who knew her.

Born on August 31, 1943, to the late Emma and Ernest P. Goode, Jean was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William L. Spinner Sr.; her dear son, William L. Spinner Jr., lovingly known as "Bim"; and her grandson, Cordell Lewis Rosser.

She was also reunited in Heaven with her brothers, Willie Goode, James R. Goode, Harold O. Goode, Elbryn P. Goode, and John C. Goode; her sisters, Selma Goode, Thelma C. Rhodes, and Reverend Jennie V. Bond.

Helen accepted Christ at an early age and joined Poplar Springs Baptist Church. After moving to Big Island, VA, with her husband, she became a cherished member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and remained a dedicated member until her health no longer allowed.

Educated in the Bedford County School System, Jean devoted over 35 years of service to Eagle Eyrie and later worked at Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg. She found immense joy in cooking for her beloved family, church family, and friends. A lover of music, she enjoyed both listening and singing. She was also a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES).

Jean's memory will be lovingly cherished by her grandson, Johnathan N. Langhorne; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Omar Langhorne-Horsley and Carter Jasean Langhorne-Horsley, both of Madison Heights, VA, and Keyshawn Chulucci Rosser of Howard, CA, along with his mother, Mary Chulucci Rosser. She also leaves behind two devoted brothers, Elmer N. Goode of Charlotte, NC, and Carl Goode (Dorothy) of Bedford, VA; her sisters-in-law, Betty A. Goode and Maxine C. Goode of Bedford, and Irene Warner of PA; as well as her brother-in-law, Charles Spinner of Washington, D.C.

Her lifelong friends and cousins, John and Thelma Lightfoot of Big Island, VA, will forever hold her close in their hearts, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In her final months, Jean formed a special bond with her beloved singing buddy, Catherine Gist, whom she affectionately called "Cathy the Clown."

Jean's kindness, love, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
