Obituary

On Thursday, October 3, 2024 God gave Deaconess Evelyn Duvey Fowler her wings to fly from her earthly home to her heavenly home. She was born to the late Henry Brown and Mary Dickerson Brown on July 10, 1932. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Wiley Fowler; her daughter Gloria Jean Fowler who transitioned at an early age; two sisters: Barbara Saunders and Linda Brown and one brother Eugene Brown.

Evelyn was affectionately called "Chief" because she always gave godly advice. She confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of Green Spring Baptist Church. After she married her husband Wiley, she moved her membership to New Zion Baptist Church. She remained a faithful member over the years. Evelyn served as deaconess, she was a member of the hospitality committee, and she sang on the church choir. She was always willing to serve in any capacity that was needed at the church.

Evelyn was a dedicated worker over the years. She was employed at Fisher's Restaurant, Bedford Weaving Mill and Rubatex Corporation where she retired after twenty-eight years of service. Evelyn was a great cook whose specialties were: pound cake, German chocolate cake, potato salad and country ham.

Evelyn will be sorely missed by her family and friends. However, they find comfort in knowing that she is at rest.

Those left to mourn are: her son Ronald Fowler; daughter Nancy Fowler Clark; granddaughter Endia Clark; sisters Phyliss Bonds (Landon), Mary Ingram (Charles), Doretha Hurt, Bessie Hurt and Brenda English; brothers Douglas Brown and Thomas Brown; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
