Obituary

Mr. Ernest Noell Spinner, age 68 of Bedford, entered into eternal rest early Wednesday, November 24, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on March 13, 1953 to the late Jennie Goode Bonds and Francis N. Spinner.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Spinner.

Ernest, otherwise known as June, confessed his love for Christ at an early age, where he joined Popular Spring Baptist Church.  Later in life he became a member of the choir and served as the church sexton, in which he was responsible for the beautification and custodial duties of the church.

June was educated in the Bedford County School System where he graduated from Liberty High School and later retired from R.R. Donnelley. Anyone who "Really Knew" June, knew that he had a devout love for race cars and the drag strip.  June began customizing cars as a teenager while attending Liberty High School in the mid 1960's.  He loved racing on the public roadways to and from places during the mid-1960 to 1970's.  He raced occasionally at the New London drag strip from the mid 1970's through the 2000's, and transitioned to becoming the most dedicated spectator.  As the years went on, he assisted his brothers Raymond, Gerald and David while they raced locally and traveled to Waynesboro, Wytheville, Harrisonburg and Piedmont events being their biggest fan.  June's love for cars was endless.  He and his younger brother Alvin traveled to Lantana, Florida in 2018 to transport a race engine back to Bedford. This was a 2000 mile round trip excursion. Upon returning to Bedford, he installed the motor into a 1984 pickup, which he customized from 2010-2020.

June will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  Those left to cherish his precious memories are children: Jessica Smith (Irwin), Baron Spinner (Seiko), Keisha Pollard, Ernest Thompson and Francesca Thompson; seven grandchildren: Chase Moore, TreMalik Thompson, Jalen Turner, Elijah Pollard, Ka'Daysia Rucker, KeyDan Rucker and Jermeyeh Pollard; Two Great Grandchildren: Tremair Thompson, Syeir Thompson; Stepmother: Florence Spinner; Four Brothers: David Spinner (Joy), Gerald Spinner (Tonya), Alvin Spinner (Ivy), Rodney Hilbert (Sabrina ); Two Sisters: Shelby Bulger (Ron), Emma Hicks (George) and an abundance of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Afterglow

I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.

I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.

I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,

Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;

Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

Amen
