Deacon Jimmy Parker went to be with the Lord; unexpectedly to family and friends but in God's perfect timing on Sunday, August 25, 2024, in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was born July 16, 1945, to the late Oscar Ban and Nannie Mitchell Parker in Bedford, Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters, Irene, Virginia, Ellen, Ida, Lila, Ada, Kathrine; and four brothers Oscar Jr, James, Bobby, Walter.
Jimmy joined Western Light Baptist Church at an early age and was a faithful servant throughout the years. He loved his church family and would help anyone in need. He was a Deacon at the church. He also served on the Usher Board and sung on the men's choir for many years. Jimmy was a hard-working man who never complained. He was a man of integrity and was kind to everyone he met. He was known to many of his friends as "Bird".
Jimmy attended Bedford County schools. He started work at a young age and started his employment at McCormick Foods. Following he started at Bays Trash Removal and worked there until retirement. Jimmy returned to work at Poindexter's Residential Center as a groundskeeper, where they treated him like family. He enjoyed his job until his health began to fail in June 2024.
Although he didn't have children of his own, he was a caring male figure for the youth in the church and his family. He would always pull out a dollar and give it to the kids. Jimmy loved his family and always made sure that his family was taken care of. Jimmy enjoyed fishing with his nephews, gardening and attending the flea markets on Saturday mornings. Jimmy loved his sweets, especially chocolate covered popsicles. Jimmys famous saying known to his family was "in my opinion".
Those left to cherish his precious memory, he leaves two loving sisters, Betty Goode and Maria Parker of Bedford, VA, two devoted brothers, his twin Johnny Parker of Bedford, VA and Joe Lewis Parker (Shirley) of Lynchburg, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He had devoted nieces and nephews who he could always count on and were by his side through his last days. He had a special cousin, Charles Parker.
