Obituary

Life: Deacon Robert E. Williams was born on March 18, 1965, in Merigold, Mississippi, son of the late JB Williams, Sr. and Ollie Mae Williams. On July 1, 2025, from the comfort of his home in Roanoke, Virginia, he was gently called to eternal rest—his work on Earth complete, his legacy everlasting.

Though he now walks among angels, Robert's spirit remains vibrant in the hearts of all who knew him. He joins four siblings in peace: JB Williams, Jr., Charles E. Williams, Sr., Bobbie J. McClain, and Larry D. Williams. Educated in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, Robert's thirst for knowledge and growth led him to Alcorn State University, one of the nation's prestigious Historically Black Colleges and Universities where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy. From there, he launched a distinguished 38-year career with the United States Department of Agriculture, serving as a Natural Resources Conservationist. His life's work was rooted in stewardship, uplifting communities, and caring for the Earth, a true reflection of his values.

More than his career, Robert was a devoted man of faith and a pillar of strength to his family and community. He led with kindness, humility, and joy, touching lives not only through his profession but through every word of encouragement, every laugh shared, and every soul he uplifted. Though we feel the weight of his absence, we celebrate a beautifully lived life that echoed with purpose and left footprints of light on every path he walked.

Lord: Robert was a man deeply devoted to his faith. Each morning, he and his beloved wife Tammy faithfully began their day in prayer and Scripture, grounding their lives in spiritual discipline. His favorite verse was Matthew 6:33, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Robert was a fervent intercessor not only for his family but for all who sought comfort and prayer. His faithful attendance, humble spirit, and tireless commitment to the work of the Lord have left a profound impact on our congregation and beyond. His absence will be deeply felt, and his legacy of faith and service as Deacon, member of the Men's Choir, Brotherhood Club and anything that was related to OBC. As Chairperson for Men's Day 2025, Robert led with grace and vision, already formulating plans for the following year with characteristic foresight and dedication.

Love: On August 5, 2006, Robert embarked on one of his greatest journeys marrying the love of his life, Tammy Miller-Williams. They were sweethearts in every sense of the word, sharing a bond so deep and joyful that it felt like a never-ending honeymoon. Their love took them from Suffolk, Virginia, back to Roanoke seven years ago, where they continued to build their beautiful life together—side by side and heart to heart.

Robert was a man who found immense joy in the simple, beautiful moments especially when surrounded by family. He loved traveling to Tennessee, Mississippi, Illinois, and Texas, where family gatherings were full of light and laughter, and you could always count on Robert to be manning the grill, soulful music playing in the background, and his signature smile lighting up the room. Thanksgiving was a treasured tradition, and nothing brought more delight than the siblings gathering around the table to feast—especially when chitterlings were on the menu. It was more than a meal, it was a celebration of love, heritage, and togetherness.

Leisure: A sports enthusiast, Robert was a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Lakers. He also looked forward to the annual Virginia State Homecomings and exploring other new and exciting adventures. One of Robert's favorite holiday traditions was the annual family Secret Santa gift exchange. For him, it wasn't just about the presents, it was about the joy of giving, togetherness, and the memories made.

Loyal: Loyalty was at the heart of who Robert was. Robert held his wife, family, his fraternity, Omega Psi Phi, and the Lord close to his heart. When he crossed paths with an Omega man, his face would light up with excitement, ready for heartfelt conversation and genuine brotherhood. Among the countless connections and friendships he made, three stood out as lifetime friends, Harvey Baker, Charles Lowry, and Vernon Cheatwood. The list of the lives he touched is far too long to name, which is a beautiful reflection of the love and loyalty that defined him.
