Cora L. Johnson, age 83, of Bedford, departed this life on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at her residence in Bedford, VA. She was born on January 26, 1930 to the late Sallie Payne. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, and a sister. Cora accepted Christ at an early age and joined Oakmulgee Baptist Church and remained a faithful member. She completed her education at Susie G. Gibson High School in Bedford, VA. She was a faithful and dedicated employee of the Elks National Home for over thirty years. Cora leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Marie Johnson of Bedford, VA, one granddaughter, Tylissa Staples of Bedford, VA; one grandson, Andre Hall of Roanoke, VA; two great grandchildren, Isaiah and Alanta Hall of Bedford, VA; one sister, Ethel Payne of Bedford, VA, two brothers, Andrew Payne of Bedford, VA and Nathaniel Payne of Lynchburg, VA; three sisters-in-law, Annie Lynton of Bedford, VA, Edna Wills (Harry) of Washington, D.C., and Delores Gibson of Bronx, NY; two loving and devoted friends, Annie Mae Payne and Ruth Singleton, and a host of other relatives and friends.
