Carlton "Nip"
Turner
Oct 18, 1942 — Sep 20, 2019
Bedford
Carlton Russell Turner, known to most as "Nip", passed away at his home in Bedford, VA on Friday, September 20, 2019. Carlton was born October 18, 1942 in Killarney, West VA, to the late Reverend Leroy Turner, Sr. and Anna Martin Turner. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Elna Bright Turner; a brother, Clifford W. Turner, Sr. and a daughter, Stacey Wright.
Nip started his education in Killarney, West Va. then he finished at Susie Gibson High School in Bedford, VA.
During his lifetime Carlton was employed by the City of Plainfield, Johnson Carper Furniture, Bedford Memorial Hospital and a Construction worker. He really enjoyed doing this type of work until he could no longer do so, due to health issues. With the help and support of his loving wife Elna, Carlton was able to rehabilitate himself after three surgeries and improve his health. Unable to perform physical labor as he was before, Carlton still had the determination to help others in need. He appointed himself as the Bedford City "Go To" person for local public transportation needs. He offered transportation assistance to anyone in need and was available for them at any time of the day. When Carlton pulled up and blew his horn, you knew to be ready to go. Being able to help others was a great satisfaction to him.
He leaves to cherish his memories three children, Carlton R. Turner, Jr. of Roanoke, VA., Trisha Turner of New Jersey and Carla Williams of Goode, VA.; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; five siblings, Barbara Halsey of Plainfield, NJ, Leroy Turner, Jr., Geronda Hale, Carolyn Hale all of Bedford, VA and Dennis Turner of Chamblissburg, VA. Also surviving, three aunts and a host of adoring nieces, nephews and friends.
Carlton had many devoted friends and family throughout his life that offered a helping hand when he needed it the most which he appreciated greatly. A Special Thanks to his granddaughter, Porscha Wright and his friend, Jerome Chatman for all they did for him. Also, thanks to the Washington Street Baptist Church Family and Shiloh Baptist Church for their tremendous support during his difficult times. Thanks to everyone else that looked out for him.
Those who knew Carlton knew that he had a good and sharing heart.
Although we will miss him.
We now realize that he has completed his mission and purpose here on this earth.
We Love you, may God give you peace.
~The family.
