Obituary

Betty Sue Harrison Greer, 83, passed away quietly at home with her daughter Kimberly Greer on January 2, 2026, three days shy of turning 84. She was born in London, Kentucky on January 5, 1942. In 1960, she graduated from London High School and was voted Laurel County Homecoming Queen. Her family always kidded her accomplishment of taking 6 home economic classes, four in high school and two at Sue Bennett College in preparation for her future.

She married Loy Greer in 1961 and fulfilled her dream of becoming a stay-at-home wife and mother for 16 years. They immediately hit the road building the interstate and went on many exciting adventures. Soon followed the birth of their only child, daughter Kimberly and the start to their unique, passionate family. Then after her divorce she attended classes and became an EMT for Knox and Whitley County, Kentucky. She saved countless lives and never had a hair out of place or a nail unpolished. Her 12-year career was cut short by a tragic accident when a stretcher dropped, and she caught it by herself injuring her shoulder. After her recovery, she became a teacher's aide in Laurel County, Kentucky until her retirement.

After her retirement she moved to Lynchburg, VA to care for her mother with dementia. She lovingly cared for her at home for over six years. She created a wonderful life in Virginia volunteering at food banks, attending Bible Study, and spending time with her church family at The Well.

The last three years of her life she lived with her daughter and granddaughter enjoying watching movies, reading books to add to her Goodreads account, and drinking coffee. She added to their lives by taking daily notes from her talk shows and updating them on current events. She particularly loved watching Gilmore Girls, going to the theater, and eating Chinese takeout. She had a lifelong passion for fashion, always stylish and always matching.

She was preceded in death by her parents Oliver Harrison and Ida Faye Jones Harrison; her loving brother Bill Harrison; and her lifelong best friend Loy Greer.

She leaves behind one daughter, Kimberly Greer, and one granddaughter, Megan Suzanne Greer. The three of them were a fierce family unit with strong personalities, but they were always there for each other.

Her family will miss her more than she will ever know.
