Bernice Hopkins
Wilcox
Jun 11, 1943 — Jun 16, 2022
Bedford
Bernice Hopkins Wilcox, 79, departed her earthly home for heaven's reward on June 16, 2022. She was born June 11, 1943 to the late Lanford Lee Hopkins and Lillie Payne Hopkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Wilcox.
Bernice was a woman of many talents and accomplishments. She excelled in her education, which she completed in Detroit, Michigan. She went on to work for the Post Office in Detroit. After returning to her ancestral home in Bedford, Virginia she became a CNA. She served her community and represented Bedford Memorial Hospital very well until her retirement.
The private, soft-spoken woman often did good deeds in secret. She was the epitome of an independent, graceful and loving woman. Yet, she wasn't afraid to demonstrate tough love. A simple look from her would set anyone on the wrong path straight. In her younger years, travel was a favorite hobby. She had a love for reading and transitioned from books to her beloved Kindle. Often, she'd sit on her porch and listen to her favorite stories. It was her idea of pure bliss. Many things made Bernice a special and beautiful soul.
She is survived by her sons, Richard and Amil Wilcox of Bedford; brother, Marvin Hopkins of New Baltimore, MI; foster sister, Mary Patwin of Bedford; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a host of other cherish relatives including her cousin, Beatrice Payne, who was her sidekick and like a sister. Bernice's presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

I lived, I loved, I gave my all
Until the day that God and heaven called
Remember me and the times we had
I stood tall through life- the good and the bad
Don't weep because I am gone
I want you all to carry on
My memory will stay alive in your hearts
We're united in spirit and are never apart
I'll see you on the other side
You, my family, were my pride
Until we meet again……….
