Annie Ruth
Singleton
Oct 8, 1938 — Nov 8, 2021
Bedford
Mrs. Annie Ruth Singleton, age 83 of Bedford, departed this life on Monday, November 8, 2021. She was born on October 8, 1938 to the late Crockett Lewis and Mary Hopkins Lewis Gross. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Pearl B. King and four brothers, Robert Lewis, Kenneth Lewis, Elbert Lewis and Frank Lewis Sr.
Annie Ruth, affectionately known as Ruth, confessed her love for Christ at an early age and joined the Oakmulgee Baptist Church. She was a faithful and dedicated member who never missed a Sunday. Ruth was President of the Usher Board and she served on the Hospitality Committee; where she worked diligently until her health began to fail.
Ruth was educated in the Bedford County School System. After which she worked as a domestic worker for 45 years and she also worked for radio personality, Mr. Sinan and many lawyers and doctors. Ruth was an active member of The Greater Bedford Improvement Association for over twenty-five years; where she assisted with back-to-school drives, food baskets for those in need during Christmas time and other resourceful events. She also participated in the Little Miss Rose Bud Paget's, The Queen for A Day Paget, Ladies Aide, Sisters Keeper and a member of the NAACP Bedford Chapter for many years.
Ruth was a wonderful woman who exemplified God's love in how she treated others. She was always there for others whether it be to give advice, be a listener or she would comfort you with some of her famous recipes such as her cinnamon or lemon pound cakes. She will be sorely missed by her family and numerous friends.
Those left to cherish Ruth's precious memories are: her son, Charles King III (Becca) of Manassas Park, VA; three grandchildren, David Reed (Tonya), Christopher D. Reed Sr (Meeka) and Natasha Y. King; three great grandchildren, Christian Xavier Reed, Journey Pearl Tolliver-Reed and Christopher Darnell Reed Jr.; one brother, James Gross of Bedford, VA; one sister, Mattie Saunders of Joliete, IL; sister-in-law, Linda B. Lewis of Bedford, VA; an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.
Her Smile
Though her smile is gone forever
and her hand I cannot touch
I still have so many memories
Of the one I loved so much.
Her memory is now my keepsake
Which with I'll never part.
God has her in her keeping
I have her in my heart.
Sadly missed, but never forgotten.
